Norma Strang-Smith /
Director / Bikram Yoga Byron Bay
For many years my background was corporate, with senior positions in sales and marketing. I had a strong desire to succeed and find happiness. Externally, I appeared successful, with all the material rewards, but inside I was deeply unhappy and suffering from Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, which gave me severe hormonal ups and downs and deep depressions.
I tried everything to heal myself. Over 17 years I studied and became certified in Aromatherapy, Swedish massage, Lomi Lomi Massage, Reiki, Clinical Hypnotherapy, and Thought Field Therapy (TFT). I went to every workshop around, tried every therapist there was, changing my diet over and over trying to find peace in my body and mind.
I then discovered Bikram Yoga and everything changed. The symptoms from PCOS reduced dramatically and I felt so happy and amazed that without drugs, I was feeling better than I had in years; my hormones balanced, blood sugar balanced, I was finally having pain free periods and to top it off my body was toning up so rapidly that I felt 10 years younger! That’s when my life purpose became clear. I had to tell the world about this amazing practice.
After becoming certified as a Bikram Instructor, I taught Bikram in Hawaii, then moved back to Australia where I taught in Melbourne before opening my first school; Bikram Yoga Fitzroy. After 18 months Bikram Fitzroy was one of the busiest and most successful yoga schools in Australia teaching over 500 students a week.
During this time I also worked closely with my husband’s drug and alcohol rehab (The Raymond Hader Clinic) I discovered that Bikram Yoga is also an amazing tool in helping the recovery of addiction.
I now bring this knowledge to Byron shire. My passion and own healing inspire people to heal their bodies and mind with Bikram Yoga, to find their inner strength and be all they are capable of being, to overcome their addictions and self-doubts to find the reason they were born and truly feel alive. Bikram Yoga is my greatest healer and teacher. It has changed my life and so many of my student’s lives. I believe my path is to share this with as many people as I can. |
